Moving house over the festive period adds a few extra items to your to-do list, as you’ll still need to buy gifts for friends and family and organise a Christmas feast, as well as dealing with solicitors and organising removals. But that doesn’t mean you have to forget all about feeling festive!
We’re sharing a few quick ways to decorate your brand new home and make Christmas 2016 one to remember.
Focus on the spaces you’ll spend time
When you have an open plan kitchen, dining and family area it becomes the place where everyone gathers around the table. Focus your decorating efforts here, as you’ll get the most enjoyment out of the twinkling lights and glittering tree in the corner.
Feel festive in a flash
Moving house at Christmas means you won’t have time to carefully arrange wreaths and decorate an 8ft tree with handmade paperchains and fresh gingerbread. String fairy lights around the banister, or make an alternative tree by decorating a plant you already own. Finally, fill a vase with ornaments to create a striking centrepiece on the table.
Frame the fireplace
Instead of focusing your efforts on a tree, why not decorate the fireplace instead? Hang garlands and fairy lights from the front, place a collection of candles on a mirror and place your Christmas ornaments on top for an instant festive feel that only takes a few minutes.
The scent of Christmas
There’s nothing like that Christmas smell! Consider lighting a festive candle with the scent of cinnamon, mulled spices or cloves to create a warm feel and cosy glow.
