Originally from Glasgow, primary teacher and mum-of-one Hayley MacLaren first set up home in Fife when returning from her maternity leave to a new job in Rosyth. Not wanting to buy a property until she had got to know the area better, Hayley decided to rent a home in Kelty, close to Cowdenbeath, for a few months.
But with her parents and brother all living in Anstruther, it wasn’t long before Hayley found out about the new Silverdykes development by Muir Homes. Silverdykes is a unique range of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes for sale in the beautiful coastal town of Anstruther.
When she decided she wanted to move east so that she and her daughter Gabriella could be closer to their family, she paid the colourful new development a visit and found herself drawn to the Kinkell, a three-bedroom semi-detached house.
“I just went along for a chat at first, and before I knew it the ball was rolling and I’d applied for a mortgage!” Hayley explained. “As soon as I saw the house I just loved it right away, and my mum who came to see it with me had the same good feeling about it as I did, so I knew it must be right.
“As a first-time buyer, I was able to take advantage of the Scottish Government’s Help to Buy scheme, which was fantastic. Within eight weeks everything was done so it all happened quite quickly.
“I just love the location – Anstruther is a gorgeous wee seaside town with beautiful scenery and plenty of places to take Gabriella for walks. In the morning I hear the sound of seagulls that remind me I’m near the sea – my family are used to this, but when you come from a city you usually just hear crows and sparrows so it’s really different!
“It’s great having a brand new home that nobody has lived in before. I liked the fact that because I’d bought at an early enough stage, I was able to choose my own flooring and carpets, as it’s quite a personal thing. I also love that I have three toilets – my en-suite, the main bathroom and a downstairs cloakroom – so even if I have the family round there is never a queue! Having a spare bedroom is also very handy when people come to visit.
“I now have a new teaching job in St Andrews, which I will be starting very soon, and it’s just perfect as it is only a very short drive from the house. I’ve also gone from having no babysitters to being surrounded by my family who want to lend a hand with Gabriella – as well as my parents, brother and sister-in-law, I also have an aunt and uncle in Cellardyke.
“I’m already very happy here. Anstruther is gorgeous, I have a fantastic new home, and I have my family close by – not to mention a rather famous chippy!”
New three and four-bedroom homes at Silverdykes start from £229,500 – find out more here.
